The Spotlight is On: Zara Louis

At Cien, we’re lucky to have a diverse, talented and passionate team! In this series, we meet a Cien team member to ask them what it’s like to work at an AI-first start up.

This week we meet Data Science Intern Zara Louis.

Where are you from, and what brought you to Barcelona?

I was born in Dallas, Texas, and go to school in Austin. I wanted to spend a semester working abroad and couldn’t think of a better place to do that than Barcelona. This is such a cool city and I’m so glad I got to spend so much time here. I love that it has a little bit of everything– culture, nightlife, beaches, great food, etc. I’m never bored here.

Why did you join Cien?

I thought the idea behind the app was fascinating. The experience of working at a startup also sounded really exciting.

Describe your role in four words.

I write code to support the data science team.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I love the people I work with.

What have you learned since you’ve joined Cien?

I’ve learned so much about programming and data science, as well as about life at a startup (which is very fast paced and exciting). I’ve also learned a lot about the basics of sales and marketing.

In your opinion, are the developments in AI going to take our jobs?

Maybe some jobs but I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing.

How do you apply the Cien core values in your day to day work?

Daily excellence is important to me– I try to do everything with purpose and to the best of my ability.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Nobody on their deathbed has ever said “I wish I had spent more time at the office”.
